비치보이스(The Beach Boys)의 브라이언 윌슨(Brian Wison)이 만든 곡으로 남성 듀오 잰 앤 딘(Jan and Dean)이 불러 1963년 7월 20일과 27일 2주간 빌보드 핫100차트 1위를 차지했다.

 

두  사람 (Jan Berry and Dean Torrence)은 고교 동창으로 비치보이스보다 먼저 활동을 시작했지만 그들의 노래는 비치보이스의 영향을 많이 받았다. 멤버중 딘 토렌스가 미국 서부의 엘에이(LA)에서 샌디에고 쪽으로 자동차로 약 40분 걸리는 헌팅턴 비치(Huntington Beach)로 이사한 후 이 곳이 Surf City가 되었다.

 

영화라면 헐리우드이듯이, 서핑족의 메카는 이곳 헌팅턴 비치기 되었다.
