Ben E.King은 1938년 9월 28일 태어났으며 본명은 Benjamin Nelson입니다. 뉴욕에서 아버지가 경영하는 식당에서

 일하며 노래하기 시작했지요. 처음에 그는 그룹 파이브 크라운즈(The Five Crowns)에서 활동했으며 1959년에

이 그룹은 드리프터즈(The Drifters)의 주 멤버로 활동하게 되었습니다.

The Drifters는 1954년에 결성된 그룹이지만 멤버들의 잦은 교체와 폭력사고등으로원래 멤버가 해체되고 동일한

매니저에 속해 있던 The Five Crowns가 The Drifters로이름을 바꾸고 활동하게 되는데 Stand By Me로 유명한

Ben E. King이 이 그룹의리더싱어로 활동했습니다. Ben E. King은 이 곡을 포함하여 The Drifters와 10곡의 곡을

녹음했지요.  Wikipedia에서 찾아 본 Ben E. King이 부른 곡의 리스트(일부)인데Ben E. King이 활동하던 때가

The Drifters의 전성기였다고 할수 있습니다.
