로마 신화에서 사물의 처음과 끝을 맡은 문이나 어귀의 수호신으로
사물과 현상의 양면을 알고 있다는 그래서 모든 시작의 신으로
정규 예배 때 여러 신 중 그에 대한 기원을 제일 먼저 했다고 하는
야누스 Janus ...

자연의 구름의 양면성을 보고 다가올듯 말듯한 사랑의 양면성까지
그에 비추어 알 수없는 인생의 양면성을 노래하는 "Both Sides, Now" 는
1967년 Judy Collins 에 의해 발표되었고
1969년에 Joni Mitchell의 싱글레코드 작품으로 소개 되었다.

1967년 조니 미첼이 아프리카 여행중 비행기에서
Saul Bellow의 "Henderson the Rain King"의 첫머리를 보고
창밖에 펼쳐지는 여러가지 형태의 구름을 내려다 보며
글을 써내려 갔던것이 바로 이 노래였다.
정작 조니는 이 노래가 퍼퓰러한 노래가 될줄은 몰랐었다고 한다.

2010 카나다에서 열린 "2010 Olympic Winter Games "에서
오프닝 세레머니로 사용되기도 했던 이 노래는
Neil Diamond (1969), Jimmie Rodgers (1969), Glen Campbell (1970),
Engelbert Humperdinck (1970),Clay Aiken (2010) performed this song
at the National Inclusion Project "Champions Gala 2010"등
많은 아티스트들에 의해 불리워져 오고 있다.

어찌보면 천사의 머리결같은데 

어느 순간 보면 해를 가리고 비를 뿌려대는구나.
많은 일들을 할 수 있었는데

사랑도 똑같이 어느 순간은 좋다가 갑자기 끔찍해 지네. 
내가 기억하는 사랑은 그저 망상이었나. 
사랑의 양면을 보게 되었구나.
사랑이 뭔지 정말 모르겠다.
