자 ~  이젠 생의 기쁨을 접고  우리 현실의 많은 눈물들을 세어가며
저  가난한 이들과 함께 슬픔을 우리모두 함께 합시다.
 
우리 귀에 들리는 영원히 남겨질 노래가 있읍니다.
이렇게 어려운 날들... 다시 오지 않기를 ....
 
다시는 이런 비극의 시대는 없으면 좋겠다고 절규하는 이 노래는
어메리카 남북전쟁(American Civil War (1861–1865) 말기에
전쟁이 끝나기를 바라며
남군, 북군 모든 병사들이 불렀던 포스터의 노래이다.

처자와 헤어져 홀로 술을 마시며 세월을 보내던 포스터는

1861년에 일어나서 1865년에 끝난 The American Civil War(남북전쟁)의 참상을 목격하고,

"고통스러운 날이 오지 않았으면 좋겠다(Hard Times Come Again No More)" 만듭니다만

아마 그 노래를 만드는 상황에 봉착하게 되었던  포스터를 말해주는 것 같습니다.
